How I became a Red Sox Fan...

Approx. 1997

Metro-North Greenwich, CT - Grand Central, NYC

Mom would take us into the city a lot via the local train. In a time before smartphones, but right around when Palm Pilots came out.
She would keep us entertained with the New York Times. Yes, after 15 minutes of reading the comics section, or when getting fussy having to share it with my twin sister, mom would pull out the sports section and show me how to read and understand the baseball box scores. She taught me what an RBI meant, ERA, Batting Averages, Hits, Walks, HBP, INT.

'97 was a big year. Nomar was an All-Star, won Rookie of the Year,  hit 30  home runs and just missed 100 RBI. Jason Varitek had the highest batting average of his career, batting 1.000 going 1 for 1 in his first ever major league plate appearance! Derek Lowe also had his first few cups of major league coffee.  And to top it all off, Tim Wakefield lead the league!!!!! (In Losses and HBP)
Pedro came in '98, along with Trot Nixon and Lou Merloni; and while the NEW YORK YANKEES would win the NEXT THREE CONSECUTIVE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS ARG.. These Dirt Dogs, won my heart.

Jules! Why no love for Hockey??!

Scene: Game 6 Stanley Cup Finals: Bruins vs Blackhawks
If the Bruins could win this game, they would have forced a game 7.
They were ahead 2-1 with 76 seconds left in the game.
I left to go to the bathroom
and came back down 3-2.
I returned my bandwagon jersey promptly!

Time

I just don't watch hockey enough on a regular basis to be able to write intelligently on how they are playing. Maybe in the future I'll find people to contribute!

Ok, I get that the kid was sneaking out to party..
As any 21 yo hotshot would!
But, he's averaged over 30 goals a season since!

When I am a Bostonian Lawyer in the near future and I can afford to get great seats to take action shots, I'll revisit hockey then. Until then... sorry not sorry
